If you’re in the southern hemisphere this time around, you’re experiencing winter. This doesn’t have to mean that your nails should lack in creativity. Nail designs are created to suit seasons, occasions and off-course your overall style. Nail artists and creatives often come up with ideas to make nails look completely different from the next. Some end up trending whilst others remain off the radar of those who love decadently looking nails.

For this reason, we’ve compiled a list of Winter nail trends 2018 that is sure to turn your winter blues into sparkly days. These are 7 of the best trends we’ve seen thus far.

1st Winter Nail Trends 2018: Black Nails

This year’s Fall/Winter trends are in opposition to boring as it unleashes liveliness and exquisitely bright nail art. A lot of manicurists use black (in a classy way) to stay on trend in 2018. If you’re looking for a slightly Goth look (if there is such a thing); classic black nails help you achieve this. You can use a Leather-Like "Grease is the Word" by OPI to add a little more character.

2nd Trend for Winter 2018: Lined manicures

Using striping tape or you could decide that you want to draw free-hand; is a technique that makes the list of winter nail trends for this year. Stripes can easily be painted on stiletto nails, with a nailbed that is painted a white color or using a nude nail polish. Applying a stripe in the color of your choice adds fun to your creation. It is a simple style that is easily achieved and takes very little effort to remove once you’re ready to move on to the next trend.

3rd Style for Winter in 2018: Opaque Metallic colors

Our list of winter nail trends 2018 would not have been complete without an opaque metallic color. Solid nail colors such as what metallics have to offer always find a way on our list of winter nail trends. It is fun yet radiates much class and enchantment. Metallic or shimmery nails are easy to achieve if using the correct nail polish. If you’re looking to turn heads; match this with gold eyeshadow.

4th Nail Trend: Taupe shades and grey colors

These colors remind us of coolness, aloofness and obviously the right amount of class. It is such a superb fit for our list of winter trends for 2018. Grey is sometimes associated with aloofness and mystery. Therefore, this adds a little excitement to your nails too. Apply these colors on shorter fingernails for a better look.

Added tip: For a runway look, apply a glossy dark grey with a green undertone.

5th Nail Trend: Chunky Nail Polish

Nails that adorn thick layers of bronze, gold or silver glitter stands out in winter. Applying glitter over a black nail polish base gives it a rock n roll vibe, that no other winter trend does in 2018. Apply this look on short nails for a look that is anything but feminine and heavily textured.

Hint: For the best coverage, apply about three coats of nail polish. You can either use a plain black nail polish and add a layer of clear nail polish with added glitter. The second option would be to purchase a black nail polish with glitter added already.

6th Winter Nail style 2018: Gold accents

You’ll should know by now that Gold glams up any nail. It adds just enough interest to any nail that has a good nail polish foundation. Added to that, it certainly isn’t that crazy and can be used for any occasion.  The winter nail trends of 2018 use bare nails with a thick stripe painted in gold nail polish. Some even paint fingernails a shade of red with a gold star, or you could use a stripe. Another way to get a great looking nail is to paint your nail bed in pink and decorate with a gold shape (of your choice). Unleash your creativity with this one.

7th Trend: Reverse French Manicure

This style is also referred to as over the crescent moon manicures. It is nail art that is ideal for the office. The style features a subdued color such as nude or white, and a brighter color. The moon at the base of your fingernail is painted in the subdued tone and the tips are painted in the brighter color. This style is ideal for shorter squared off nails.

Hint and Tips:

  • Apply this style to shorter squared off nails.
  • We prefer the bright color in a glossy red as an entry to our list of winter nail trends in 2018.

8th Trend: Red French Manicure

A classic French Manicure uses your natural (looking) nail plate with white tips. Change things up with a deep red color for the nail base but still using white tips. The creamy white tip contrasted against the deep red color will get people looking twice at the new trend this time of year.
